Field Notes
What belongs in a fintech operational audit kickoff pack
The fastest Operational Control Audits we run share one trait: the sponsor arrives with a kickoff pack that is boring and complete.
Documents that save a week
- Last two closed periods of bank and ledger reconciliations for the processes in scope
- Current standard operating procedures for exceptions, returns, and manual adjustments
- A list of systems of record — even if that list is a simple table naming who owns each one
- Organisation chart for operations and finance roles that touch customer money
Calendar reality
Block two full days for on-site interviews even if you hope we will finish sooner. Maker-checker owners and reconciliation owners are rarely free in the same afternoon unless someone protects the calendar in advance.
What not to include
Marketing decks, product roadmaps, and aspirational control designs that have not been operated yet. We test what ran in the sampled period. Future-state slides confuse the findings pack.
